The daily life of the Cathedral is the responsibility of the Dean, three Residentiary Canons, and the four lay members who constitute the Chapter of Lichfield Cathedral. They are supported by a Council which is chaired by the Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire and whose twenty members are partly elected, and partly nominated by the Bishop of Lichfield. They are also joined in their work by the College of Canons (a number of senior priests from the Diocese of Lichfield), the full and part time lay staff and the volunteers. For a fuller description of the clergy hierarchy, please see here.
