Lichfield Cathedral has important links with churches across the world. Our links commit us to the offering of mutual encouragement and prayer; the sharing of information to help us gain a better understanding of each other; and the giving and receiving of insights and experience to strengthen our common mission.

St Chad's Trust

To celebrate the Millennium, the Bishop of Lichfield and the Dean of Lichfield Cathedral appealed to churches across Staffordshire, the West Midlands, and Shropshire to help them set up a trust fund to enable young people between the ages 18 and 35 to spend time as volunteers in church based placements in another part of the world.

Lichfield Diocese has companionship links with the three dioceses in Malaysia (Kuching, Sabah, and West Malaysia), with the diocese of Matlosane in South Africa, Qu'Appelle in Canada and the Lutheran Church in Mecklenburg, Germany. The Trust encourages and assists young people from churches in these places to spend between four months and a year in placements here in the UK and in turn sends young people from this country to work in caring projects in one of our link churches.

European Links

Lichfield City has a twinning link with the RC churches of Ste Foy les Lyon in southern France and with Limburg RC Cathedral in Germany. Lichfield Cathedral has formed a close link with the churches of Ste Foy and Limburg Cathedral. Regular exchanges take place between the three places, both of individuals and various groups. Christians try to give a prayerful, spiritual basis to the links so that they may improve the quality of the life of all.

The Lichfield Diocese has a link with the Lutheran Church of Germany in the Diocese of Mecklenburg, and the Cathedral has established a link with the Cathedral of Schwerin. Exchanges take place and an exchange of information, and we hope to stimulate one another in discipleship.

North American Links

The Cathedral has for many years formed a fellowship link with the people of St Mark's Episcopal Church on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. Doris Buton is the Link Person from St Mark's.

The Diocese also has a link with the Qu'Appelle Diocese of Canada, and the Cathedral is linked with St Paul's Cathedral, Regina. Regular exchanges of people and information stimulate our work for God.

Malaysian Links  

The Lichfield Diocese has links with the three Malaysian dioceses of West Malaysia, Kuching and Sabah. The Cathedral is maintaining a link with their Cathedrals: St Mary's, Kuala Lumpur; St Thomas', Kuching and All Saints', Kota Kinabalu.

Our link with Malaysia is providing a particular stimulus to Mission and Evangelism in the Lichfield Diocese.
