Alex Mason, our Assistant Organist, will be leaving Lichfield this summer to take up the post of Organist and Master of the Choristers at St David’s Cathedral. To replace Alex, and to increase the work we do jointly with the Cathedral School and especially – with the Government-financed MusicShare project (our Music Outreach project to local primary schools), we have created two posts: Sub-Organist/Assistant Director of Music and Assistant Organist/Assistant Director of Music.

The Sub-Organist will be primarily concerned with sustaining daily Cathedral worship and assisting with Cathedral Choir rehearsal. Other duties will include working with MusicShare and acting as an accompanist and arranging and planning the recital and concert work.  The Assistant Organist will focus primarily on expanding MusicShare and fostering the Cathedral School’s Girls Choir. There will also be twice weekly Cathedral services to accompany and a share in the regular organ playing duties of the Cathedral.

Martyn Rawles, currently Assistant Organist at Winchester College, has been appointed Sub-Organist and Assistant Director, and Catherine Lamb, currently Assistant Director of Music at Christ Church Priory has been appointed Assistant Organist and Assistant Director of Music. For contractual reasons we will have to wait a little while before we can welcome them to Lichfield (one at half term perhaps, the other after Christmas) but their appointments are very exciting news.
