Good Grief‘Good Grief / Bald Statements' - an exhibition by Jean Parker on display at Lichfield Cathedral

Jean Parker's exhibition of powerful sculptures will be on display at Lichfield Cathedral between October 31st and November 12th. Jean presents a body of work that reflects upon a period of illness and medical treatments and Jean's desire to work within a range of feelings and emotions that she experienced during this time. The exhibition was born as a reflection of Jean Parker's own experience of cancer.

The exhibition also includes a collection of eight terracotta heads that emerged during the course of a seven-day silent retreat and present a powerful and unique visual exploration of the grief process from denial through to peace.

This unique and very special collection of sculptures will be on display throughout this period from 7.30am until 6.15pm and entrance to the Cathedral and this exhibition is free of charge. Jean will also be holding a series of workshops to talk about the exhibition on Monday 10th November at 2pm, 4pm and 7pm. For more information please contact Jo Harvey

Canon Pete Wilcox, Chancellor of Lichfield Cathedral said of the exhibition:

We are so pleased to be hosting this fine exhibition and hope that it will be of particular help to those who are struggling to come to terms with some loss, recent or not.  So many visitors to the Cathedral find it a place of peace and healing and we trust that by the grace of God this exhibition will enrich this precious ministry.

Jean Parker's work has a meditative, focussed quality which is rare at a time when many figurative artists have chosen to deal with the vulnerability of the human body in a more violent and abject manner. Jean studied art as a mature student for four years in Coventry and later completed an M.A. She works in clay, stone and bronze and her themes are generally universal.

Please note this exhibition is on free loan from Westhill Endowment (telephone 0121 472 8000).
