Lichfield Cathedral Chorus is a community choral society based in Lichfield Cathedral. Previously known as Lichfield Cathedral Special Choir, the chorus has around 120 members and performs two to three concerts each year with orchestra or organ to large audiences. Our annual Christmas Carol Concert with the Salvation Army Cannock Citadel Band is hugely popular.
The choir has been making music in Lichfield since 1959, when the Cathedral organist Dick Greening put together a chorus of 65 singers for a performance of Handel's Messiah. Under our present conductor, Ben Lamb, the choir performs two to three concerts a year, both large scale choral works with professional orchestra and soloists, and smaller works for choir and organ. Review of the Choir’s 50th Anniversary Concert: The Cathedral was packed for this very special occasion, with many former friends and supporters travelling many miles, and they were not disappointed, for this was indeed a stunning performance by the Special Choir, who had clearly expended a great deal of energy in successfully learning the complex yet singable and satisfying score.
