As the mother church of the diocese the Cathedral community supports the faithful and there are many services and events held in the Cathedral for the whole diocese and for groups within it. Ordinations, occasional licensing ceremonies, the blessing of oil on Maundy Thursday, area weeks, the Selwyn lectures, etc.

In May, the Cathedral hosts the Secondary Open Door project (Log On 2 God) and the Primary schools' event for some 1800 children over nine days. A Middle School project, called ‘G8’, started in June 2008.

The Diocesan Digest Team supply tapes some 500 visually impaired people in the Diocese and beyond.
