Lichfield Cathedral is called to live and proclaim the transforming love of God. Through the fullness of its life in the Spirit it seeks to be a sign of the friendship and freedom that God in Jesus Christ has given to the whole world to enjoy. Lichfield Cathedral is the 'mother-church' of the Diocese of Lichfield. The Diocese covers the whole of Staffordshire, much of Shropshire and part of the West Midlands. The diocesan bishop works with the three area bishops, of Shrewsbury, Stafford and Wolverhampton, and four Archdeacons. The Cathedral's chief role is the daily worship of God and the prayerful support of the work of the Diocese, but as any other church community it ministers in the local and wider community, especially contributing to the work of the Diocese in areas which are specific to its gifts and complement diocesan mission and ministry. |
