Cathedral Outreach

The Cathedral prays for the Cathedral Community, the Diocese and for our Link Churches across the world.

Some Community Prayers

Heavenly Father, you called blessed Chad
to follow the example of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord,
to live by love and to care for all your people.
Help us, in our turn, to walk the way of love
and to use the gifts you have given us
in the service of others and to your honour and glory
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Eternal God, giver of life and power,
your Son Jesus Christ has sent us into all the world
to preach the Gospel of his kingdom:
confirm us in this mission
and help us to live the good news we proclaim,
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Go before us O Lord
with your most gracious favour
and further us by your continual help,
that in all our work, begun, continued and ended in you
we may glorify your name,
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

The community of Lichfield Cathedral also seeks to play its part in serving the wider community within which it is set. We do this primarily through our prayer life, praying daily with the rest of the Church for peace and for healing for the world, and through giving financial support to local and national caring agencies. We encounter the world practically through:

  • the Diocesan Sound Digest, which supplies over 500 tapes a month to the partially sighted across the diocese
  • the Cathedral Bookshop, which serves our visitors by supplying mementoes of their visit, gifts and religious books
  • the Cathedral Coffee Shop, which offers convivial hospitality to visitors and hosts their celebrations
  • our Mother and Baby Group, which provides a supportive meeting-place for young mums with their first child
  • our Education and Encounter programme, which hosts tertiary level classes in a number of subjects, and puts on a programme of lectures and talks, to which all are welcome
  • our Art Exhibitions, which are held from time to time in the Cathedral
  • our Visitor Ministry, which shares the Cathedral with parties of all ages and interests and with the casual visitor. Our hope is that, by giving a warm welcome, hospitality and information to our visitors, tourists will become visitors, and visitors will become pilgrims.
